After years of local theatre and modeling for hardware displays, Red shot to international superstardom when she was featured on the cover of the Archie McPhee catalog. Red also served as the inspiration for many of Archie McPhee's dog-themed products. These lovely Dachshund Bookends, for example, were made in her image. Other items, no longer available except to collectors, included Red & Friends Keyrings, the Pecan Shell Dachshund, and Bend-o-weiner.
From all this exposure came product endorsements, talk show appearances, movie offers, and of course the famous Red Dog T-shirt shown above. Miss Thing even left her pawprints in wet cement on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, despite a misunderstanding with security guards who maintain to this day that an invitation to do so was required. |

As generations of divas have learned, with fame comes the pressure of being in the public eye. Red's days were filled with photo shoots, television tapings, radio interviews, and talk show appearances. And yet the public yearned for more. Speculation about her private life was rampant, and she was soon unable to go anywhere in public without being mobbed by admirers.
Today the starlet has retired to her quiet villa, where she spends her days basking in the sun, gardening, listening to music, and snacking. But she has never forgotten her adoring public, the little people who made a star of a little dog. |
ODE TO RED
Dachshund of my dreams
I saw you on Archie McPhee
I know you're the one for me
Your modeling is so versatile
I love to look at your smile
To your figure none can compare
You have me floating on air
